Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Cor. 1:10
What is the reality of the new creation in Christ? Unity. Joy. Power. Love. Suffering. We have the same Spirit, the same Lord, the same baptism, and we have the same mind. Paul pleads with his brethren to speak the same thing, that there would be no divisions among them, but to be perfectly joined together in the same mind and judgement. As we walk in the Spirit, we will have the same mind. We will begin to sound the same. Why? Because we all have the same mind, the mind of Christ given to us through the Holy Spirit.
Just as Jesus only said and did exactly what the Father said to say and do, God is also bringing us to this same experience of walking in complete faith with our Creator, listening to Him, speaking what He says to say and doing what He says to do. The Holy Spirit knows the mind of God and He reveals the mind of God to His people. We have this mind in us. We are sealed in His Spirit and He fills us with His Spirit. As we walk in the Spirit, abiding in Christ, believing Him, we do not carry out the deeds of the flesh. We walk in unity together because we are unified. We have the same mind in Christ, and this mind lines up perfectly with the will of God.
We are perfectly united in the body of Christ. Perfectly. How do we walk in this unity? By being who we truly are in Christ; believing that what God said He has done, He actually did within each of us in His body, His church.
We have no wise thought apart from God's thoughts. We cannot even come close to conceptualizing His thoughts, can we, unless He reveals His thoughts to us? But when He reveals, we are transformed in our thinking and we begin understand things we never could see before and we walk more fully in the newness we have in Christ.
So we are to lean not on our own understanding, putting no confidence in ourselves, our abilities, our wisest thoughts. We know that we have been crucified with Christ and that we no longer live, but Christ now lives in us. We have His mind. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. We have no wisdom in and of ourselves that even comes close to the wisdom of God which He reveals through His Spirit. So we sit and listen to Him, letting our words be few, our requests be few, and we come to Him as little children, eagerly listening so we can learn His mind and His ways.
How beautiful are the thoughts of God. How amazing that He would reveal His thoughts and enable us to understand the mystery of His gospel and His kingdom.
