Listening in Prayer

Walk prudently when you go to the house of God;

and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.

Do not be rash with your mouth,
And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God.
For God is in heaven, and you on earth;
Therefore let your words be few. (Eccl. 5:1,2)

Drawing near to God to hear. This is the goal of prayer. This is true spirituality. What more do we need to say? What wise counsel can we offer God? What things do we need to ask for?

He knows our thoughts before one of them comes to our mind. He knows our needs. Our ways are not hidden from our God. He is abounding in lovingkindness. He loves us totally and completely like the good Father He is. What more do we need to say? Let our words be few. More than that is foolish to God and evil in His sight.

So we come to listen. To hear His words, for He alone is wise. He alone is True. He is fully trustworthy in all He says. He is right all the time. He instructs our hearts in His ways and His thoughts -- For His thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways higher than our ways.

Oh God give us ears to hear what you are saying to us. Let us put aside all other thoughts and only live within Your thoughts, God, that we may know You, the only God and your Son Jesus Christ.
